Magic Hat #9

Our story with Magic Hat #9 begins in Westport, Connecticut.

See, we were dating a striking vixen in late 2001, who had a dad with impeccable taste in brewskis.

We weren’t quite 21, yet, so the concept of sneaking beer had become well engraved within our collective consciousness. We tip-toed into the garage and she pulled out this beer with a trippy-looking label.

We took one sip, and we were in love. It was so tart yet so full-bodied. It was an orgasm in a bottle. After about three of four of those while sitting on her front porch at 2 a.m., we were sufficiently buzzed and, well… you can figure out the rest of the story yourself, my little snowflakes.

We broke up with said girl, but three years later, we paid her a visit during a monumental road trip.

One of the places we went was the supermarket, where we absolutely had to find Magic Hat #9. We brought a case home with us and introduced it to the ladies we were entertaining that evening.

Not long thereafter, a Magic Hat beer rep waltzed into the chain restaurant where we worked. We pitched our manager on the joys of the bubbly-brew and voila! Magic Hat #9 made it’s debut in Western New York. It has spread like wildfire ever since.

There was a time when we used to be a musician. We used to request Magic Hat #9 in between every five songs. By the end of the set, we were usually too flummoxed to play anything but crappy Tom Petty covers. Tom Petty is one of those musical acts where you only know the words to his songs when you are drunk or high.

In short, the Magic Hat #9 is our favorite beer. It is not the best beer (nay, it is certainly not that,) but it has been there through ups and downs, highs and lows. It has gotten us play, and it was there while we played. We helped bring it to new places, and it was brought upon us by pleasant faces.

It may be listed as #9, but it’s No. 1 in our hearts.
